Ahmed Hassan, born 2 May 1975 is another Egyptian professional football player who plyes his trade abroad, currently playing for Beşiktaş Istanbul (Turkey). The Egypt international Ahmed Hasan started his professional football career at 17 and was 20 when he was chosen to play in the Egyptian national team. At 22, Hassan joined Turkey's Kocaelispor team. After playing at Denizlispor and Gençlerbirliği, he was transferred to Beşiktaş in the 2003-2004 season.

Ahmed Hassan has played in six African Cup of Nations championships for Egypt, winning the competition twice. First in 1998 and again in 2006. He missed a penalty kick during the final game, but made up for it as the first striker in the shoot-out to help Egypt win the 2006 title. He was awarded "Best Player of the Tournament" in the African Cup of Nations 2006.

With good technique and ball control, Egyptian midfield player Ahmed Hassan has become a major figure over the course of his long stay in Turkey. Generally deployed to play behind two strikers, he is a regular goalscorer.


National team

Born in 1975, he made his debut against Morocco in October 1996. Hassan has played in four African Cup of Nations and scored the opening goal in the 1998 final success against South Africa. He remains a regular and is regarded as Egypt's leader and playmaker.


Club
After making the breakthrough with Aswan in the 1996/97 season, he was an Egyptian Cup winner the following year after a switch to Ismaily. Hassan quit his homeland for Turkey and Kocaelispor ahead of the 1998/99 campaign and went on to score seven goals in 62 games over the course of a three-season spell at the Ismet Pasa Stadium.


2001: During the 2001/02 season's winter break, Gençlerbirligi SK took a chance on Hassan, and he proved to be a magnificent signing, notching ten goals in the 16 games he played.


2002/03: He also impressed during his first full season at the 19 Mayis stadium scoring 13 times in 27 games - prior to an acrimonious departure from Gençlerbirligi after he refused to sign a new deal. Besiktas nipped in and landed Hassan on a three-year contract.
