Egyptian striker Ahmed Hossam Mido will return to AS Roma after 18 months on loan at Tottenham.
The 22-year-old scored an impressive 14 goals in 27 starts for Spurs but was plagued with injury and fitness problems. Tottenham signed Bulgarian striker Dimitar Berbatov from Bayer Leverkusen for $20.4 million last week, making Mido's exit almost inevitable.
Although Tottenham’s Dutch coach Martin Jol wanted to secure Ahmed Hossam Mido's services, Spurs' talks with Roma regarding a permanent deal for the former Ajax and Marseille man have broken down.

The Spurs´ move to sign Bulgarian striker Dimitar Berbatov from Bayer Leverkusen earlier, cast doubts over Mido's future at White Hart Lane.
Ahmed Hossam Mido's campaign with Tottenham was hampered by injuries in the Premiership’s final stages. Ahmed Hossam Mido scored 11 goals for Tottenham Hotspur this season, five behind the club's top-scorer Robbie Keane. Spurs manager Jol said in the beginning of the season that Mido should score at least 15 goals to guarantee a permanent deal with the Spurs.
Tottenham have also decided to release Moroccan defender Noureddine Naybet, along with Serbia and Montenegro defender Goran Bunjevcevic.
"Striker Ahmed Hossam Midowill return to AS Roma this summer at the conclusion of his 18-month loan period. We thank all the departing players for their contribution and wish them every success for the future."

said a Spurs statement on the official website.
