the Egyptian Midfielder Hossam Ghaly's fortuitous first-half goal and an impressive solo strike from Dimitar Berbatov after the break earned Tottenham Hotspur FC an impressive victory against Besiktss JK at the Insnü Stadium, as the English side made a winning start in UEFA Cup Group B.

Egypt striker Ahmed Hossam 'Mido' did not take part in the game and wasn't even on the substitutes' bench as coach Martin Jol opted to leave him out of the squad.

Tottenham opened the scoring just after the half-hour mark when Hossam Ghaly notched up his first goal for the club following his summer arrival from Feyenoord.
Latching on to a through-ball from Jermaine Jenas, his initial shot hit Vedran Runje but the ball cannoned into the Hossam Ghaly and back over the goalkeeper and into the empty net.

Berbatov ensured the win in the 63rd minute when he was released by Robbie Keane's volleyed pass before rounding the last defender and Runje to poke home into the empty net.

Besikts JK had offered little in return but the goal forced some urgency in their play.
Marcio Nobre headed wide before Ricardinho, no stranger to the English game after a spell with Middlesbrough FC three years ago, stung Paul Robinson's hands with a blistering free-kick as the home side upped the pace.
