It is the first friendly win for Egypt since the African Cup of the Nations triumph as the Pharaohs lost twice to Spain and Uruguay.

The African champions' last meeting with South Africa ended 2-1 for the Bafana Bafana in the final build-up for the African Cup at the Cairo international Stadium.
Egyptian head coach Hassan Shehata started with Moteb and Amr Zaki at front as Ahmed Hossam (Mido) still needed some rest while Mohamed Zidan wasn't available because of surgery.

Behind the two strikers Mohamed Abo Treka played the role of the playmaker.
Emad Meteb opened the score as early as the third minute when he latched-on to Mohamed Abou-Treika's brilliant chip pass to curl a right-footed strike into the right top corner of the net.

Emad Meteb almost doubled the lead in the 16th minute when he ghosted behind South Africa's defense to receive Hossam Ghaly's header with a close-range shot that went over the bar.
Seven minutes later, Amr Zaki pounced on a loose ball to send a first-timer that was parried by South Africa keeper Rowen Fernandez into the path of Emad Meteb, whose second attempt on the rebound was denied again by the superb goalie.

Amr Zaki had another chance in the 32nd minute after his long-range shot bounced off the ground but Fernandez blocked it.
The Pharaohs were content to defend their lead in the 2nd half and so, South Africa had more possession. In addition to this, Hassan Shehata made many substitutions to test the new faces in the national team and to evaluate the performance of all players. The changes affected the harmony between players and the 2nd half was free from excitement.
