Fathi, who spent a week on trial with United in December, currently plies his trade in the Egyptian league with Ismaily.

Warnock said:
"We're finalising details to bring in a midfield player - Ahmed Fathi - in the next 24 hours. He's 22 years old, which is a lovely age and he is a nice lad who knows what the English game is all about. He'll get stuck in.
"Ahmed is a bright lad, he has an eye for a pass, and scores goals as well - he is quite creative."
He spent a week with us here and fitted in well, although I'm not going to expect too much from him. You don't know how quick players will settle in when they come from abroad.
"Ahmed wants an opportunity and I see it as a good acquisition for us because we do need another midfielder."
Neil Warnock also stated that:
Fathi has emerged as the best option amongst a long list of midfielders that he has looked at. Meanwhile, Warnock said that there may be news impending on players heading out of the Lane before the end of the January transfer window.
