Mohamed Zidan and Mainz fought bravely against Werder and hold them to a draw in the first half. However, the home side managed to score in the 2nd half through Vranjes and made the job difficult for Zidan and his teammates. Zidan played a very good first half and lacked support in the 2nd. Werder's 2nd goal came through Almeida who scored an easy goal from counter attack as all Mainz players including their keeper went forward to attack.

Bremen scored a deserved win over a battling Mainz side to keep in touch at the top, three points behind league leaders Schalke 04. Jurica Vranjes (60.) and Diego (90.+2) grabbed the goals that made te difference.




The first half was an even affair, with both keepers called into action on several occasions. Bremen upped the pace after the break, and with an hour gone Jurica Vranjes - a last-minute replacement for Christian Schulz - hammered them in front following some good work by Clemens Fritz.


Diego made sure of the points for the Hanseatics with a second in the dying moments of the game.


For Mainz, this was only their second defeat in nine games since the league restart. Despite that good form, they remain 13th in the table, only three points clear of the drop zone.
