Egyptian international Mohamed Zidan has been signed by Bundesliga side Hamburg from their relegated German rivals Mainz 05 in a deal worth US$6.7m.

Follow up:
The deal looks like going ahead despite the fact the 25-year-old's medical at Hamburg discovered a persistent groin problem which needs another operation.
The striker is a proven goal-scorer, having netted 13 goals for Mainz in just 15 games after switching from Werder Bremen midway through the season and will be able to train with his new club when pre-season training starts.
Hamburg's Dutch coach Huub Stevens had wanted to sign the striker during the Bundesliga's
winter break last season, but Mainz got him first.
The clubs have already agreed the transfer and Zidan is pleased to be heading to Hamburg.

"I'm really looking forward to playing for Hamburg, they are moving in the right direction,"
said Zidan.
The deal is expected to be confirmed on Saturday.
