The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has rejected the appeal lodged by the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) requesting that their match against Mauritania in the MTN Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers be replayed.

The bureau of the Africa Nations Cup, in its meeting in Cairo on Tuesday, turned down the appeal that was submitted by the EFA requesting a replay.


“The incident that occurred during the match did not affect any of the teams or the sports spirit of the game,”

a CAF spokesman stated.


The Group Two game on Sunday in Nouakchott ended in a 1-1 draw but was held up for 40 minutes during the half-time break as the home fans invaded the pitch.


Egypt, the reigning African Champions, were leading 1-0 at the end of the first half and the EFA claimed that their players were scared during the second half which affected their performance and the match result.

“The Egyptians did not show any signs of insecurity during or after the game and they shook hands with their opponents after the final whistle,”

the CAF spokesman added..


Egypt are still top of the group with eight points, Burundi are two points behind while Mauritania and Botswana have four points each.
