Zamalek new multi-million pound team had a shocking start of the season after losing to Ismaili 1-0, on Monday, in Cairo stadium.


Substitute striker Mostafa Karim was clear in front of goal scoring the winner five minutes before time registering Ismaili's first victory over Zamalek since April 2002.

Chairman Mamdouh Abbas may have spent EGP 30 million to strengthen his squad but on the pitch the team failed to deliver its goods.


Dutch coach Ruud Krol had to start without his top marksman Amr Zaki who was banned after being sent off against Ahli in the Egyptian Cup final. His absence was more than noticeable as Zamalek's front line failed to convert the easy chances offered in front of goal.


Abdul-Halim Ali and Gamal Hamza had some easy chances in the box but because of their lack of accuracy and imagination they failed to break through the nets.


Zamalek were the most influent side during the 90 minutes, courtesy to a brilliant display of new signing Ahmed Magdi in midfield, but on the other hand Ismaili's attacks were a real threat to Mohamed Abdul-Monsef.


The international goalie had to make some stretches on Abdullah Al-Saied and Abdullah Al-Shahat's efforts.


But he couldn't hold it anymore as substitute Mostafa Karim was sent clear on goal, snapping the defense marking, to score the winner five minutes before time.


Hazem Emam could have scored the equalizer but his close range header went inches next of the post.


The victory sends Ismaili to the top of the standing with three points.
