Quality of finishing resulted in West Ham beating Boro by three goals to nil in the 2nd half. After a goal-less first half in which Mido created a great chance to Aliadiare who his the post, the home side scored an early goal and added a 2nd after an own goal by Middlesbrough's defender Young. The 3rd came through Ashton after a quick counter attack. On the other side, Middlesbrough got many chances but they lacked the quality in finishing and Tuncay wasted three real chances by himself alone.

It took just 21 seconds of the second half for the deadlock to be broken. Hayden Mullins picked out Cole a few yards up from the edge of the Boro box. He in turn threaded a low ball through to Lee Bowyer who beat Schwarzer with a low volley on the turn from 12 yards.


Just five minutes later it got worse for Boro as Cole collected the ball on the half-way line and surged forward. He hurdled one challenge before sending a harmless looking low cross in from the left-hand edge of the Boro box.
