Egyptian giants Al Ahly profited from an own goal to claim a hard fought 1-0 win over Libya’s Al Ittihad and progress to their third consecutive MTN CAF Champions League final.
The Red Devils were made to work hard for their narrow win in the semifinal, second leg match at the National Stadium in Cairo, which handed them a 1-0 aggregate triumph in the tie, but Manuel Jose’s team will now face Tunisian champions Etoile Sahel in a repeat of the 2005 Champions League final.

Follow up:
Al Ahly broke the deadlock in the 20th minute when Hesham Shaban flicked Gilberto’s cross into his own net under severe pressure from striker Emad Moteab.
Al Ittihad goalkeeper Samir Aboud denied the Egyptians a second just a few minutes before half time when he turned Flavio’s low shot around his post for a corner.
The second half saw Al Ahly continue to dominate but they failed to take advantage of their scoring opportunities.
Flavio missed a sitter just before the hour mark, shooting wide from point blank range after a fine cross from fellow Angolan Gilberto.
Al Ittihad’s Pierre Koulibaly was dismissed late on for an off the ball incident, taking the wind out of the Libyan’s sails just as they were building up momentum for what promised to be a thrilling finish.

Etoile Sahel will host the first leg of the final on the weekend of 26-28 October and the return leg in Cairo will take place on 9-11 November.
