Mohamed Zidan's Hamburger SV faced Freiburg on Wednesday night in the German Cup (DFB Pokal). Zidan and his teammates didn't have much trouble defeating their opponents despite conceding an early goal as the difference in class was obvious between the two teams.

Zidan played the game from the start despite the return of Guerrero from injury. The Peruvian played the role of the lone striker while Zizou played the role of support man behind him.


Zidan didn't get close chances to score in the first half. However, he was involved in the build up of some attacks.


HSV put their opponents under pressure from the kick off but a mistake from defense led to an early goal to Freiburg. The goal came through a poor pass which led to a cross from the right wing into the near post. Freiburg's forward Matmour was well positioned in front of goal and headed the ball home before the goalkeeper of HSV to make the score 0-1.


Just six minutes after the goal, Trochowsk managed to level te score from a well placed low shot from the edge of the box.





HSV continued to control the gameplay in the first half but they couldn't score any more goals till the 2nd half where Olic managed to score from a powerful header in the 52nd minute.


After the 2nd goal, Zidan got his best chance in the game when he dribbled past his marker from the right side of the box and tried a powerful shot from narrow angle but his shot went into the side netting.


In the 90th minute, Gurrero won a penalty kick for HSV as he was pushed in his chest by his marker just inside the box and the referee pointed to the spot. The substitute Van der Vaart converted the spot kick with ease to make the score 3-1.


It should be noted that Zidan came off and was replaced in the 82nd minute.
