A moment of wizardry from Salomon Kalou settled the clash of the heavyweights in Cote d’Ivoire’s favour on Monday as they beat Nigeria in Sekondi in a winning start to Group B at the MTN Africa Cup of Nations Cup finals in Ghana.

Cote d’Ivoire went ahead when Kalou dribbled past three Nigerians before beating keeper Austin Ejide from close range. Aruna Dindane went close to doubling the tally three minutes later but the striker missed the target after outpacing the Nigeria defence. "Nigeria were the most dangerous team and I think the most important (thing) has been done,” said Ivorian captain Didier Drogba afterwards."
