Mohamed Zidan's Hamburg missed out on the chance to go top in the Bundesliga following a 2-1 defeat to Werder Bremen on Saturday.


Ivorian striker Boubacar Sanogo put Bremen in front on the quarter-hour mark before Hamburg skipper Rafael van der Vaart leveled the score in the 61st minute.


Petri Pasanen notched home three minutes later to send Bremen to the league's summit on temporary basis with 33 points.

Without Egyptian striker Mohamed Zidan who didn't didn't travel with Bundesliga leaders Werder Bremen who thrashed Levski Sofia 3-0 away in their Champions League Group A match on Tuesday to stay in the hunt for the knockout phase and give another hard lesson to the competition's newcomers.

Mohamed Zidan's Werder Bremen managed to win their home Champions League clash with Levski Sofia by two goals to nil.

Mohamed Zidan came on the in the 79th minute of Werder's home clash with Gladbach which ended in a 3-0 win for Zidan's side. All goals came in the first half through Hunt, Schulz and Diego.
Mohamed Zidan had a single chance in the stoppage time when he took the ball past two defenders and tried to bury it home past the keeper but his shot went just wide.
