Black Stars In For A Tough Opening Match

Four-time champions Ghana open the 26th edition of the MTN Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday with a tricky tie against Guinea in Accra.


The Black Stars have been tipped as one of the favourites of this year’s tournament but the host nation must first beat the in-form Sylli National if they are to make an impression in this competition.


Ghana are under pressure to emulate the two previous hosts of the tournament, Egypt in 2006 and Tunisia in 2004, to win the tournament and must first assert themselves in the difficult Group A that includes Morocco and Namibia.

Didier Drogba made amends for his infamous outburst to repair "broken" Chelsea's Barclays Premier League mission, with a timely goal in today's win at Middlesbrough.

The points were clinched by Brazilian defender Alex's 57th-minute thunderbolt, just as the Teessiders were threatening to force their way back into the game.
Mido made come back from injury and played from the start. The Egyptian had a big chance to score from a powerful header Mido might already have dragged his side back level on 17 minutes when he headed towards goal from Gary O'Neil's right-wing cross - but Cech saved at the second attempt.

Egypt - Ivory Coast0-0.

African champions Egypt settled for a goalless draw with Ivory Coast at Sebastien Charlety stadium in Paris in an African Cup of Nations qualifiers warm-up on Wednesday.
However, both teams failed to find their usual rhythm due to the poor state of the water-logged pitch.

Ahmed Hossam started his first game for some time, and coming at Stamford Bridge, the striker simply had to give it his all. Hossam Ghaly played the full game, and almost set Mido up for the opening goal of the game, only for the Egyptians to be denied by Chelsea keeper Petr Cech.
Spurs' best chances came from striker Mido , who had headers tipped over by Petr Cech
