Defending MTN Africa Cup of Nations champions Egypt kicked off the defence of their crown with an emphatic 4-2 victory over Group C rivals Cameroon in Kumasi on Tuesday.
The Pharaohs surged into a 3-0 half time lead thanks to a penalty from Hosni Abd Rabou and a superb brace from Hamburg SV striker Mohamed Zidan. Cameroon’s Samuel Eto’o ignited hope of a comeback from the four time African champions with a header five minutes after the break but when Abd Rabou scored his second with less than ten minutes to play, Egypt knew they had secured all three points. Cameroon and Egypt on Monday had a last training session ahead of Tuesday’s Group C match of the MTN Africa Cup of Nations between the two nations.
Cameroon’s session started at 4pm at Kumasi’s Baba Yara Stadium. It was a light training session which ended with a fun exercise. The session was concluded with a group prayer. Players didn’t talk to the media and coach Otto Pfister’s only reaction after training was “no comment”.  Easy task for Egypt in preliminary qualifiersAhmed 26th November 2007
Egypt have been handed an easy draw in the preliminary stage of the 2010 World Cup qualifiers as they were placed in Group 12 along with DR Congo, Malawi and Djibouti.
