Egyptian Players Abroad, Foreign Match Report: Fenerbahçe - Rizespor 2-1

20th August 2006

Beshir Al-Tabei the Egyptian international Defender played the full game for his side Rizespor in the Turkish League. Beshir Al-Tabei played very well but his great performance couldn't help his team to avoid the first defeat in the championship when they faced last year´s runers up Fenerbahçe.

Only 5 minutes from the start Tuncay had the first chance for Fenerbahçe but Beshir Al-Tabei made his first impact and cleared the ball away.

After 20 minutes, it was Brazilian star Alex, who passed the ball to Tuncay who controlled the ball superbly and fired the ball towards the Rizespor goal, just to be saved buy the goalkeeper.

Only 1 minute from the half time whistle, Tumer made a good run through Rizespor´s defence and then crossing the ball to Tuncay, whose header was saved again by Rizespor´s goalkeeper. But this time the rebound came to Alex´s feet who had no trouble to finsh for the 1-0 lead.
After the half time break, Rizespor came out with the willingness to score. This left space for Fenerbahçe to counter-attack and after 63 minutes it was Tumer who lopped the ball over Rizespor's goalkeeper to score the second goal for Fenerbahçe.

Only 13 minutes from the final whistle Cem Baki could score the only goal for Rizespor.

It should be mentioned that Beshir Al-Tabei got rated XX.

Match Report Turkish Cup Final: Besiktas - Fenerbahce 3-2 after extratime

03rd May 2006

Tumer Metin double leads Besiktas to the Turkish Cup triumph while the Egyptian star Ahmed Hassan didn't play . Ahmed Hassan had a slight injury just two days before the Turkish cup final, after he returned from Belgium negotiating a new contract with the Anderlecht officials. It looks likely that Ahmed Hassan will be joining RSC Anderlecht next season. Ahmed Hassan´s contract expire with Besiktas this season .

Midfielder Tumer Metin scored twice to take Besiktas to a 3-2 extra-time triumph over Fenerbahce in the Turkish Cup on Wednesday. It was the Istanbul club's sixth Cup triumph and consolation for a poor season which has left them trailing far behind big city rivals Fenerbahce and Galatasaray. The latter two clubs will now battle for the league title in the final two games of the season.

Turkey international Tumer Metin scored the winning goal with two minutes left to play in extra-time, beating one Fenerbahce defender and firing in a shot from the edge of the penalty area to beat goalkeeper Volkan Demirel.

Besiktas's French coach Jean Tigana commented just after the match while his players celebrated on the pitch: "We have made progress to win this Cup and to beat such a big rival is not easy. I congratulate our players, but we must now focus on our remaining games,"

Besiktas had already secured a place in next season's UEFA Cup as Cup finalists because Fenerbahce and Galatasaray will be playing in the Champions League.

The final, played at the Ataturk Stadium in the Aegean port city of Izmir, came alive after a lacklustre opening half hour. Tumer Metin was the catalyst for Besiktas 1-0, curling a free kick around the Fenerbahce defensive wall after 32 minutes and beyond Volkan at his right-hand post.
Four minutes later, young Besiktas striker Gokhan Gulec made it 2-0 when Tumer disposed Tuncay Sanli and set up Gokhan who drove the ball across the goal into the net to Volkan's left.

Fenerbahce, league champions for the last two seasons under German coach Christoph Daum, took the game to Besiktas in the second half.
Brazilian playmaker Alex pulled a goal back for Fenerbahce after 56 minutes, thumping the ball into the net from a close range off a cross from Ghana midfielder Stephen Appiah.

Mehmet Yozgatli scored the equaliser with little more than 10 minutes left to play, firing in a speculative long-distance shot beyond outstretched Besiktas keeper Oscar Cordoba.

In extra-time, Fenerbahce's Brazilian midfielder Marco Aurelio was sent off for a second yellow card offence with five minutes left to play. While their Istanbul rivals regrouped, Besiktas took the initiative and within two minutes Metin had put the Cup beyond them.

Besiktas last won the Cup eight years ago, while Fenerbahce have failed to lift the trophy for 23 years.
