Defending MTN Africa Cup of Nations champions Egypt kicked off the defence of their crown with an emphatic 4-2 victory over Group C rivals Cameroon in Kumasi on Tuesday.


The Pharaohs surged into a 3-0 half time lead thanks to a penalty from Hosni Abd Rabou and a superb brace from Hamburg SV striker Mohamed Zidan.


Cameroon’s Samuel Eto’o ignited hope of a comeback from the four time African champions with a header five minutes after the break but when Abd Rabou scored his second with less than ten minutes to play, Egypt knew they had secured all three points.

Cameroon And Egypt Gearing Up For Group C Clash

Cameroon and Egypt on Monday had a last training session ahead of Tuesday’s Group C match of the MTN Africa Cup of Nations between the two nations.


Cameroon’s session started at 4pm at Kumasi’s Baba Yara Stadium. It was a light training session which ended with a fun exercise. The session was concluded with a group prayer.


Players didn’t talk to the media and coach Otto Pfister’s only reaction after training was “no comment”.

Mali - Benin .1-0

Frederic Kanoute's penalty early in the second-half earned Mali a 1-0 victory over brave Benin in the African Cup of Nations Group B game on Monday.


The victory put Mali level with Ivory Coast on three points after the Elephants edged past Nigeria 1-0 earlier in the day.


Sevilla playmaker Seydou Keita was the architect of Mali's attacking attempts during the first-half.

A moment of wizardry from Salomon Kalou settled the clash of the heavyweights in Cote d’Ivoire’s favour on Monday as they beat Nigeria in Sekondi in a winning start to Group B at the MTN Africa Cup of Nations Cup finals in Ghana.

Chelsea’s Kalou netted on 66 minutes against the run of play to give the Elephants a dream start at the new Essipon stadium.

A hat trick inside 30 minutes from Soufiane Alloudi ensured a easy 5-1 win for Morocco over Namibia in their MTN Africa Cup of Nations Cup Group A match in Accra on Monday.


The rising star of Moroccan football netted two goals inside the first five minutes in a desperate start for minnows Namibia, making only their only Nations Cup appearance a decade after the first.


Alloudi completed his hat trick with a rare headed goal in the 28th minute after Tarek Sektioui had teased the porous Namibia defence to provide the prefect cross.


Alloudi set was set for the opening gola in the second minute by Marouane Chamakh whose initial effort had hit the post.
